Special Olympics Bharat faces BITS Pilani

BITS Pilani's annual sports festival, SPREE 2013 took its "Act to Inspire" campaign a step further with the help of the Special Olympics Bharat movement. Differently abled atheletes from all over India competed against the official BITS Pilani teams in Badminton and Football. While the special olympics team fell marginally behind the local college team on both fronts ( BITSPilani eventually winning 2-1 in Football and 3-1 in Badminton, ) they were successful in proving their enormous sporting talent as well as their determination.

"Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt," being its oath- Special Olympics Bharat operates with the philosophy that people with intellectual disabilities can also learn and enjoy from participation in sports, endeavours to provide holistic development and training that goes beyond the classrooms into the playing fields, cultural and community centres, to motivate children with disabilities to join and remain in school. Through the blissful yet tiring act of training in sports, the team via 179 National Coaching Camps has built numerous leaders and healthy athletes. 100,000 athletes more reached out to every year

Host team BITS Pilani successfully defended their title with a dominating display on Day 2 of SPREE 2013. Following are the final standings for the top 10:

Both the morning and evening batches of Motilal Nehru, Delhi advanced to the semi-finals of the football championships, while BITS Pilani thumped Prestige 6-0 en route to the semis.

IPS Indore inflicted crushing defeats on BITS Pilani Hyderabad as well as IIST, Indore to advance to the semi- finals. They will be joined by BITS Pilani, COE Pune and INDUS, Tamil Nadu.
